Chris Senserrick


With over 22 years of industry experience and as a co-founder of Ground Science, Chris’ passion lies within project delivery, outstanding quality and exceeding client expectation.

Having spent his career under the mentorship and business partner in Ernie Gmehling, Chris has a well-rounded, practical approach to all facets of our industry.

Chris has worked on many of Victoria’s largest infrastructure projects, having both the knowledge and drive to deliver a premium service.

Working closely with both staff and clients, Chris believes transparency and communication is a vital key to success.

My goal is to continue these values and to offer as much support to our staff and clients as is required”.


Ernie Gmehling

Associate Dip Eng (civil)

With over 38 years’ experience in the industry, Ernie is a well-respected member of the geotechnical fraternity. Ernie is the sitting Chairman of the Australian Standards CE009 committee of which he has been a part of since 2006. He currently holds the position of Secretary of the Victorian Construction Materials Laboratory Association, is a NATA technical assessor, has written several training modules for technical colleges in the industry and is a regular presenter at a variety of National and State conferences. He actively participates in many associations including the STA, ALDE, ARMA, AGCSA, FFSV, HEDRA, and VGA. Ernie has recently been appointed to the NATA Geotechnical and Civil Construction Materials Testing Accreditation Advisory Committee.

Ernie has been instrumental in the company’s progression from its humble beginnings of two staff into a company employing over 80 professional, technical and administration support staff.

Ernie’s passion lies in delivering practical solutions to clients in a manner that the client feels supported throughout the experience.


Chris Mamalis


Chris has 20 years industry experience and is a highly respected member of our team. He joined Ground Science early in 2014 and later was involved in setting up the Geelong Branch office of Ground Science South West. Chris brings 10 years of experience as a project manager of pavement and geotechnical investigations on Vic Roads major arterial roads projects.  He also has specific skills in source rock testing, quarried materials, concrete, asphalt testing and is a technical assessor for NATA in his field of expertise.


Troy Carnovale

BE (civil & computing) Hons

Troy Carnovale joined Ground Science in August 2016 with a wealth of experience spanning 21 years in the industry working on both sides of the fence with Civil Contractors, Councils and Consultants. Troy holds a Bachelor of Engineering Civil and Computing (Hons) from Monash University. Troy is a dynamic operator with an enormous amount of passion and energy to deliver high quality and efficient results to his clients.


Ange Gentile

Diploma of Business (Admin)

Ange joined the company in November 2006 and has been instrumental in assisting the directors take the company from the small humble beginnings to what it is today. Ange was promoted to the General Manager position in July 2021 taking the lead to allow Ernie Gmehling to  focus on technical aspects of th ebusiness. Ange has great organisational skills and an ability to multi-task with the ever increasing demands on her and the team.  Ange is always happy to assist our clients with their enquiries and is fundamental in the delivery of account management which comes with over 30 years’ experience in the industry.


Gee Singh

BE (Civil) Hons

Gee completed a Bachelor of Civil Engineering at Monash University and successfully completed his Thesis on Coode Island Silt deposits, (Published in the Australian Geomechanics Society Journal, Volume 45 No 1, March 2010) before joining Ground Science in 2010. He is a senior geotechnical engineer and the Geotechnical Team Leader.

Gee has been instrumental in the growth and development of the Ground Science geotechnical team; attributed to his interest in solving engineering problems and working with a great support team of geotechnical engineers, engineering geologists and environmental scientists.


Priyadarshan Bapat (PD)

ME Environmental Engineering (Hons)

Priyadarshan Bapat also known as PD joined Ground Science in December of 2019 as a Senior Environmental Scientist and team leader, bringing a diverse skill set to the team. With over 10 years’ experience in contaminated land site investigation and management, PD has a strong understanding of the environmental regulations binding the entire industy. PD will be more than willing to assist you on your next contaminated land project.  


Kallam Collins

Cert IV Laboratory Techniques

Kallam has over 13 years of CMT industry experience and utilises his great personal skills to manage the companies Quality Assurance program.


Tim Senserrick

Cert IV Laboratory Techniques

Tim has over 16 years’ experience as a geotechnicians and has worked on many major infrastructure projects around the state. Tim is highly efficient and has a thorough understanding of construction materials testing.

Grant Sloan

Diploma Laboratory Technology & Cert IV Laboratory Techniques

Grant joined Ground Science East early in 2018 and has brought with him over 30 years’ experience in geotechnical testing throughout Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland.  Grant provides expertise in a broad range of field and laboratory testing as well as operational management skills. Grant is a NATA technical assessor and assists with office quality assurance.
